Fun Happy Birthday Jesus ideas for kids & classrooms

Hi friend,

One of my favorite ways to keep Christmas centered on Christ is to treat it like what it really is: a birthday celebration for Jesus.

You don’t have to throw a huge party. Even a few small, thoughtful touches can help kids remember who this season is really about.

Here are some Happy Birthday Jesus ideas you can use at home, in Sunday school, or in the classroom:

  • Happy Birthday, Jesus Flip Book
Kids flip through and read: “Jesus, You are our Savior, Teacher, Friend, King, Healer, and God’s Gift.” It’s a simple way to talk about who Jesus is—page by page.
  • 3D Pop-Up Happy Birthday Jesus Card
Kids create a card where Jesus “pops up” wearing a birthday hat. It’s fun, memorable, and makes a sweet keepsake or gift.
  • On the Day You Were Born” Printable
A one-page “newspaper” style sheet that walks through what happened when Jesus was born and why it matters. Great for older elementary kids and tweens.
  • Happy Birthday, Jesus Handprint Craft
Turn a simple handprint into a birthday cupcake for Jesus. This is perfect for littles and makes a sweet keepsake for families and grandparents. Pair with some of these fun HBD cake ideas.
  • Birthday Banner & Party Hat
Add a “Happy Birthday Jesus” banner and printable party hats to make the day feel set apart and special without a lot of extra work.

You can use these ideas:

  • At a church birthday party for Jesus
  • As a family Christmas Eve or Christmas morning tradition
  • Or as a classroom celebration that gently points kids back to the manger.

If you want everything in one place, I also have a full Happy Birthday Jesus Activity Set with all of these pieces together.

However you celebrate this year, I hope it helps your kids see that Christmas is more than presents under the tree—it’s about the greatest gift of all.
