Not Quite Summer? Try This Simple Family Reset

Hello!

Whether your school year is wrapping up this week or you’ve still got a little more to go, May always seems to carry that in-between feeling — tired hearts, full calendars, and a longing to just pause.

If your family’s been running on empty, I wanted to offer something small but meaningful:
A 10-minute reset.
Not a project. Not a printable. Just a gentle nudge to reconnect and catch your breath together.

The 10-Minute Family Reset

  • Step outside for a short walk
  • Share a snack at the kitchen table — no phones, no distractions
  • Sit together and answer one simple question:
“What’s something we’ll remember from this school year?”

It doesn’t need to be profound — sometimes it’s the funny field trip story, the lunchroom mishap, or a new friendship that meant everything.
This small moment of reflection can ground your family as you step into a new season.

Want to Go Deeper?

If you’d like to turn it into a dinner table conversation, try these prompts:

  • What was something hard this school year… and what did we learn from it?
  • Who helped us grow or encouraged us along the way?
  • What’s one thing we’re excited about for summer?

These kinds of conversations don’t just pass the time — they build connection, memory, meaning, and give you insight into your child's heart and mind.

If you want a little more help, I’ve collected a set of Family Conversation Starters you can use year-round. Just a simple way to make everyday moments matter. Also, take a look at the How Well Do You Know Your Family game.

So before the school bags get tossed and the sprinkler turns on, maybe just take 10 minutes this week to pause and talk.

Sometimes the simplest moments are the ones that stay with us longest.

XO,
Ashley
