An Unexpected Move… and a Few Things That Helped

Hello Reader!

So… we moved. Again.

This is house number five in the last ten years — and I truly thought the one we just left in Virginia was going to be our forever home.

But here we are — now in Florida — closer to family, stepping into a fresh start that came sooner (and more unexpectedly) than we thought.

And let me just say… I forgot how intense moving is.

Even though I’ve done it before, I found myself back on my own blog looking through my Moving Hacks and Tips post — and yes, it’s still packed with good reminders that truly helped me this time around.

A few things that saved my sanity:

📦 Pre-sorting by destination, not origin
In Virginia, our linens were in the bathroom closet. In Florida, they’re going into a laundry room closet. So before the movers packed anything, I moved items into the room they’d belong in on the other side.
That way when I unpack the “laundry room” box, I find linens — not a surprise pile of bathroom stuff.

🧺 My moving basket
This little caddy came with me everywhere. Sharpies, scissors, tape, trash bags, post-its, even my phone — all in one place so it didn’t get boxed by accident. (Because yes, the movers packed my toothbrush… and the microwave parts… and even the rug I was leaving for the new tenants. I had a friend who was moving international and her passport got packed - it really is a race to load boxes once the fun begins.)

📘 My moving binder (yep, the one I thought I’d never use again)
You can find it here in case it helps: Moving Organization Binder
I used it to keep track of utility shutoffs, move-in tasks, address changes — all the things that would otherwise live on 47 random sticky notes. If you want a discount code on this one, message me and let me know!

Maybe you’re not moving, but maybe you're in a season of change or unexpected transition too. If so, I see you.
We’re figuring it out over here, one box (and pizza dinner) at a time.

If a move is ever on the horizon for you or someone you know, feel free to pass along these moving tips — I needed them more than I expected.

More soon from sunny Florida,
Ashley

Hi Reader - Can I tell you something that might surprise you? Despite all the emails I send, all the creations I share, and all the planning tools you see on the blog… I’m not a natural planner. At all. I don’t run our summer on a color-coded schedule. What I do have — and what’s helped our family the most — is a rhythm. It’s flexible. It shifts day to day. But it gives our home a gentle flow, and it keeps us from feeling like we’re just reacting to chaos all summer long. What’s a rhythm,...
